What is the purpose for the pony that comes to horse racing to the starting gate?
They use them to help keep the horses calm race. Some of racehorses is extremely difficult to handle when they are doing their warm up approach to starting gate, will run with the jockey. If they are being led by another rider on another horse, race horse does not get a chance to escape before the race begins. (If the horse ran away, the horse would do badly in the race)
